Sherry Hood has a wonderful gift for teaching. She makes her students feel like learning is effortless –
despite the fact that students are learning and applying an enormous amount of information in one
month.
I was delighted with this course and I am using all the techniques I was taught. I have worked with
people with Tinnitus, Enuresis and Sleep issues so far. (I just graduated in at the end of May 2011). As
I am very aware of the mind-body connection and use it in my counselling practice, hypnotherapy fit like
a glove and feels absolutely natural. It is, in fact, brilliant in its seemingly common-sense
acknowledgement of the power of the mind. Where other counselling modalities can be complicated and
awkward to use, I personally find hypnotherapeutic techniques to be like a comfy ol’ shoe. It was

about her life, her school and hypnotherapy. It was so refreshing. As someone who had worked as a

wise tutelage was like a breath of fresh air.

I am a clinical social worker who has been working therapeutically with clients for many years. In that
time I have researched and studied a variety of both long established therapeutic and contemplative
traditions, as well as the more contemporary theoretical frameworks and techniques. It is my belief and
experience that clinical psychology is just entering a new frontier of understanding and working with the
human condition, and concepts like neuroplasticity, neurogenesis, and holistic wellness are joining with
some of the more long-standing and time proven practices that until now have not been that well accepted
by western psychology and medicine – like hypnotherapy.
In my practice I came to the conclusion that ‘talk therapy’ techniques such as Cognitive-Behavioural
Therapy and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy were somewhat short-sited in not taking into account the
gestalt of the therapeutic recipients – the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. I believe that in order
to make the clients desired changes as effective and efficient as possible, the subconscious needs to be
joined with the conscious mind in a collaborative effort with hypnotherapy being the tool used to access
the subconscious.
I began to research hypnotherapy in order to see if there was compatibility and therapeutic possibility
with my understanding of my clients needs. I found many training options, some appearing to be more
reputable than others, but as I explored the legitimate alternatives seemed to narrow. In the end, I was
drawn to the academic curriculum, the disciplinary commitment, professionalism, and transparency of the
Pacific Institute of Advanced Hypnotherapy (PIAH).
I am now in the third module of the program, soon to be a certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, and I have
not been disappointed in my experience. In my opinion Sherry Hood is not only a reputable and
passionate advocate for hypnotherapy, but a knowledgeable, skilled, practical and caring educator. For
anyone who is interested in quality – with the process as well as the product, my recommendation would
be to invest in the Pacific Institute of Advanced Hypnotherapy.

recent graduate. Everything you need to know about how the school and curriculum functions has
already been eloquently and succinctly voiced in the other testimonials that you will read. What can I add
to this? Simply to let you know that it is all amazingly true! My school experience was absolutely
wonderful and thorough. Although I had some experience in hypnosis prior to attending PIAH, I found
that what I actually knew was less than a drop in the bucket. You cannot learn what you need about
hypnosis by reading about it in books or weekend workshops. The beauty of this school, and what
actually attracted me to it, was the fact we would be doing hypnosis on people from the general public
under the guidance of an instructor. You will have hypnotized 30-40 people by the time you graduate!
This piece of your education alone is so completely valuable to making you into a confident and capable
hypnotherapist. The curriculum is taught clearly and in a way that you will be able to grasp all the
concepts being presented easily. Please don’t worry about your age, or how long it has been since you
were previously in school, you will learn and do very well. There is no other way since Sherry is truly a
wonderful instructor. Her kindness and patience is unprecedented in a teacher, at least in my experience.

choose the right one. Not so long ago I was in the same boat, scouring the internet in search of a school
that would provide me with the knowledge, experience, and confidence I needed in order to provide my
future clients with the best I could possibly offer. I now wish to share the result of my search with you.
I am so happy to have found Sherry. I knew Sherry’s school was the perfect choice the minute I did my
student interview with her. Besides her indisputable ability as an excellent hypnotherapist and her
apparently boundless knowledge of the field, Sherry has the passion, drive and love of teaching that
makes a person proud to study under her. I was thrilled to register in the class and the feeling that I had
made the right choice was repeatedly reinforced throughout the course. This feeling increased as we
learned about the workings of the body, brain and mind, practiced hypnosis and studied numerous

relevant videos, multimedia presentations, articles and handouts. Sherry’s passion for the field is
contagious and her knowledge, experience, perseverance, and that spark every excellent teacher has
make her in my opinion, the go-to educator for the future of hypnotherapy in Canada.
