To begin with, the profession of clinical hypnotherapy not being properly regulated in Canada certainly
proves a challenge when searching for a competent, well trained clinical hypnotherapist. Let alone looking
for one who is dedicated to the cause of teaching and promoting the profession. I couldn't have been
more grateful and fortunate to have found Sherry Hood.
What drew me to Sherry's school was her forthright nature, making no claims to be a doctor/PhD with a
'comprehensive' weekend program but by her insistence on rigorous and proper training. This is evident
in her curriculum and the guest client contacts one has to see everyday during the course. I admire her
dedication to the profession where she has worked towards the regulation of clinical hypnotherapy in B.C,
Canada. Unfortunately, the process is slow but her efforts towards this have not gone unnoticed with her
clinical hypnotherapy course being recognized as a medical elective with the University of Alberta. This in
my opinion is a step forwards for the profession and I congratulate Sherry on achieving such a milestone.
What I found particularly helpful during the course was the work/practice the students had with guest
clients everyday of the course. Sherry books guest clients for students to practice with. From what I know
and have heard from people taking other hypnotherapy courses is that the students are required to find
their own guest clients to practice on in their own time. Firstly, practicing without the proper supervision
of a trained clinical hypnotherapist when one barely has the knowledge as a student is not ethical practice
but can also be potentially detrimental to the client. Secondly, having to source for guest clients without a
trained clinical hypnotherapist present is not only challenging but when they do agree they usually come
from friends/family and this certainly pushes the boundaries of therapist professionalism and
friendship/love which many a time is not conducive to both parties.
As a teacher, Sherry's patience and compassion puts her in the right place to be teaching. 2 attributes
which I truly believe are needed to be a therapist as well as an educator.
All in all, Sherry's dedication, professionalism and compassion is what has brought me to writing this
testimonial. I wish her all the best and to you, the prospective student.

Thank you to Sherry Hood and the Pacific Institute of Advanced Hypnotherapy for giving me the skills and
knowledge to bring about change in my life, my families life and all the people that I care about.
I graduated from the full time class in April of 2012.
By day I am a nurse and by night I am a mother and wife, like so many other women.
When my husband was told by the pain clinic that there was nothing they could do for his chronic pain but
continue giving him narcotics, I started searching for alternative ways to help him deal with this problem.
After researching many other schools I chose the Pacific Institute of Advanced Hypnotherapy for it’s
recognized curriculum by the University of Alberta. I did not want to learn some hocus pocus but needed
to know that the school I chose would offer the training that I needed to be successful. Not only did I
learn a new set of skill to use in my daily took kit, I also changed myself and my way of thinking.
I set out to helping my husband with his chronic pain and ended up helping my whole family and myself
with various personal blocks. Together we achieved amazing results with hypnotherapy.
I did not plan on using my new skills for anybody other than my family and here I am……. 6 months later
with my home office and an office in town…. Client referrals from Doctors and University Professors,
group sessions, and invitations from schools to speak to students.
In closing I would like to say that if you are ready to change your life, choose wisely who you trust to
teach you …… In my opinion Sherry Hood and her way of delivering her curriculum, the guest clients who
provide an opportunity to practice new skills daily and the schools high tech set up aimed towards an
enhanced learning experience, are the best way to add a very powerful healing modality to your tool kit.

As a recent graduate, I unreservedly endorse the Pacific Institute of Advanced Hypnotherapy (PIAH).
With the extensive course I graduated feeling competent and prepared to practice. This enthusiasm for
hypnotherapy and the enjoyed experience is a direct product of Sherry’s care and competence in crafting
her school.
Sherry tirelessly promotes the advancement of hypnotherapy through her mentoring group for PIAH
graduates and her affiliation with the Department of Family Medicine in the University of Alberta. This
post graduate support and Sherry’s medical affiliation with the University were two of the key elements
my choice of PIAH.
I spent some time looking at the many options for schooling in Metro Vancouver but Sherry’s school stood
out head and shoulders above the others. A personal interview with Sherry only confirmed that I made
the right choice. Not only is she organized, knowledgeable, and competent, but she is an excellent
teacher with a warm and engaging personality. Each day of class was a pleasure.
The school is easily accessible. I live in Metro Vancouver so PIAH in New Westminster is an easy drive for
me. The inexpensive parking within a few minutes walk is convenient.
I found the immersion environment of the full time course over 4 weeks was a perfect fit for me. It truly
was immersion. The classes are 8 hours a day with several hours of reading each night and three exams.
The course was an amazing and satisfying experience. However, PIAH schedules several classes per year
in both full and part time formats so there are several options.
The core curriculum was extensive and thorough, written largely by Sherry. The core curriculum was
rounded out with text books, documents, and videos from other noted hypnotherapists giving extended
information and varied points of view. Sherry is a practicing hypnotherapist actively engaged in formal
studies of hypnotherapy in medicine. Sherry’s personal experience brought hypnotherapy theory to life
with real life examples and in-depth discussions in the small classes.
As students we worked with real clients, guest clients, prearranged by Sherry. Many clients returned
multiple times, a testament to their trust in the professionalism of the school. In several cases though,
we worked with clients new to hypnotherapy. Working with real clients was a privilege both exhilarating
and humbling. The experience was a key factor in building confidence as a therapist.
I’ve since corresponded with graduates through the mentoring group and met many personally at
monthly meetings. As a group they are professional and involved therapists giving support and sharing
advice freely with both new and old graduates.

How does one start to thank others for so much? I am not sure there are the right words in the English
language. What started out as a journey looking for the missing puzzle piece in the HypnoBirthing
training ending up being a new awakening thanks to Sherry and the community of therapists she has
trained. The training is suburb and detailed, the confidence gained with guest clients, the mentorship with
former students and Sherry herself is worth so much as I start my path forward in this exciting field. My
horizons now seem endless. Sherry's passion is infectious and her professionalism makes the institute

experience that truly opened my eyes to all the possibilities that surround us.
Sherry is a fantastic instructor who is very intelligent, knowledgeable, and highly respected in this field.
